Fun on the Fourth of July!

Join the Douglas County Democratic Party as we celebrate Independence Day at the Highlands Ranch Fourth of July Festival!  We will have a float in the Highlands Ranch 4th of July Parade, and will be walking behind it.  If you would like to join us in the parade and show folks that there are indeed Democrats in Douglas County, meet us at 8:00 am on Friday the 4th at the corner of Lucent Blvd and W. Highlands Ranch Parkway (park in the Super Target parking lot, located at 1265 Sgt Jon Stiles Drive, HR 80129).  The parade route is one-and-one-half miles long, and takes about one-and-one-half hours to walk.  Bring sunglasses, a hat, comfortable shoes and light clothing, and sunscreen.  We will also have a booth in the Town Center South shopping area, located south of the intersection of W. Highlands Ranch Parkway and Dorchester St (just east of the Tattered Cover bookstore).  We will be handing out info about our candidates and our events.  The booth will be open from 9 am to 7 pm.  If you would like to help us staff the booth and can spare 2 hours on the 4th, contact Dan Hernandez at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Saving Our Communities!

Should oil and gas drilling rigs be allowed to operate near our homes and schools?  Should fracking be allowed to be conducted near our parks and playgrounds?  Should oil and gas wastewater disposal wells be drilled near our local water supplies?  If you think not, then join us Thursday, June 19th, from 7-9 pm at the James H. LaRue Library (formerly the Highlands Ranch Library), 9292 Ridgeline Blvd, Highlands Ranch, CO  80129, and learn about Colorado Ballot Initiative 75!  We will have a guest speaker from the Colorado Community Rights Network, who will describe how Initiative 75, if passed in November of 2014, will provide for more local community control over these types of activities!  Please join us for what will be an exciting, enlightening evening!

Preserve Progress!

Please come to our August Meet-up, 7:00 pm, Thursday, August 15th at the Highlands Ranch Library, 9292 Ridgeline Blvd, HR, CO  80129 to learn how you can help Preserve Progress!  The Democratic Party presently has majorities in the Colorado State Senate and State House of Representatives.  These majorities allowed the passage of several progressive measures, including a civil unions bill, several gun control/public safety bills, and a bill increasing renewable energy from rural utilities.  The majority in the State Senate, however, is presently at risk due to Republican-led efforts to recall certain Democratic State Senators.  Come learn how you can help preserve our majorities, and how you can help Preserve Progress!  Our Guest Speaker will be Andrew Short, Executive Director of Colorado's Democratic Senate Campaign Fund.  Make new friends!  Catch up with old ones!  See you there!

Join us at our June Meet-up, Thursday, June 20th, at the Highlands Ranch Library!  Our special guest speaker will be Cindy Barnard, President of Taxpayers for Public Education!  Cindy is a parent and a resident of Highlands Ranch.  She is a leader in the fight to keep public money in public schools.  She recently testified at the State Capitol in support of legislation to make school boards more transparent.  And she will inform us as to the importance of the November 2013 Douglas County School Board Elections!  Join us at 7:00 pm, Thursday, June 20th, at the Highlands Ranch Library, 9292 Ridgeline Blvd, Highlands Ranch, CO  80129.  Make new friends!  Catch up with old ones!  See you there!
